Dear Mr van Oort,

I have been asked by the client whom you referred to us, Miss Lin Po of San Francisco, to write to you expressing her gratitude for your help. I must say that this is hardly the kind of client that we at Bodlian, Bodlian, Merryfield and Spry usually accept, but given the history of your family with the firm, we feel able to make an exception.

Miss Lin has given the police her full co-operation in the investigation into the goings-on at the Jade Dragon Restaurant, and looks certain to receive a lenient sentence for her own crimes. She has also asked that I inform you that the chef of the Jade Dragon is expected to make an almost full recovery from his injuries. Miss Lin thanks you for giving her the opportunity to start afresh, and asked me to tell you that she is eternally in the debt, and at the service of you and your companions.

On a related note, Mr Bodlian Sr has asked me to point out that there has been some manner of book-keeping error in regard to payment for Miss Lin's counsel, and the invoice has been returned by your father's office unpaid. I urge you to take action to remedy this situation as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick Spry,
