Poems about Poetry

Can you catch a poem?

Can you catch a poem?
Can you hold it in your hand?
Can you snare it in a net,
So you can lock it in a cage?
Can you trap it in a pit?
Can you tie it in a bag?
Can you pin it with a pencil,
And fix it to a page?

Can you catch a poem?
Can you seal it in a book?
Tether it with ink and paper,
Bind it up with card and cloth?
Can you put away a poem,
Claim its music for your own?
Or should you set a poem free,
And light it with your voice.

Can you catch a poem?
Is that what you should do?
Or do you see that poem
Was not put there just for you?
Lift a poem from its page,
Do not ever hold it tight.
Cast that poem in the air,
And see poetry take flight.

Does a poem have to rhyme?

Not all of the time.
